So I got home from DC about 4 hours ago, but actually got home about an hour ago. I'm pretty tired, but I needed to write about the whole experience.
The trip was amazing. I absolutely loved it. We left on Saturday pretty early in the morning. We arrived in DC around 4:00 ET. We were exhausted, and of course my sister had plans for us right when we got there. We ended up going to see the Cherry Blossom Festival firework show it was pretty cool, but we were so tired. To add to the excitement on Sunday we had to leave at 8 and go to church, think about it... that's 6 Utah time. I was not happy about it, and everyone knew it. So after church we all took long naps and all was well again. :D Then Jordin had some MORE plans for us. We went and saw some of the famous Cherry Blossoms and we went on a walk around the Jefferson Memorial. I took some photos, and we went back to the hotel and slept again.
Monday we woke up early and because it was Heather's birthday she had an agenda planned for us. We went into China town, and went to the spy museum and best of all... we went to Madame Tussau's. aka... Wax Museum. It was pretty tight. My favorite thing ever. We decided that we probably should see some sort of historical sites that day so we went to the Ford theatre (where Lincoln was shot) and we went to the air and space museum, and some other museums too. It was a cool experience.
Tuesday we heard it was going to rain so we planned a lot of daytime stuff so we would avoid it. Lucky for us it didn't even rain, but we followed our agenda like planned. We saw places like the library of Congress, and we got a tour of the capitol and Senate building. We went to the National Archive Museum (where the declaration and other documents are kept) that was cool, but the crowd was not worth it. We also went to more museums, but it was the American History Museum. It was pretty cool. We saw the actual Star Spangled Banner ( the flag that inspired our national anthem), also Dorothey's shoes from the wizard of Oz, and all different things from our Nation's history. It was way cool.
Wednesday we planned all our outside stuff because they said the weather would be pleasant. Well apparently Tuesday and Wednesday got mixed up. It rained literal buckets, but we couldn't change our plans very easily. We went to Arlington Cemetery and saw the changing of the guards, poor guy, he was soaking. So then we went to the Holocaust Museum. It was so eye-opening to realize what all those people went through, and it was a bit depressing. OH! then we went to the Bureau of Engraving and Printing (where they make money) it was so cool, and I learned some cool stuff about our country's money. :D
Thursday we didn't have too much planned we went to Gettysburg. In other words, we drove for about an hour and a half to get there and toured the battlefield. It was so cool, and I learned more about one of the most important battles in American History. We got to stay in our car, drive the battlefield, and only stop and get out when we wanted. It was so relaxing and we had great bonding experiences. Later that night, when we got back into DC we went and saw the monuments at night, that was a cool experience and they really are pretty. My favorite was WWII. It was gorgeous, and all around amazing. :D
So we came home today, and I loved the whole trip, but I'm super tired. I never realized how much you can get worn out from a vacation. :D
